Himba tribe members are pastoral people who predominantly breed cattle and goats. We take a guided tour around the village and get an insight into their way of life. The Himba wear little clothing and the women are famous for covering themselves with a mixture of butter fat, ochre, and herbs to protect themselves from the sun. The mixture gives their skins a reddish tinge which symbolizes earth's rich red color and blood which symbolizes life.

We see jewelry being made, learn of the milking ceremony, experience the smoke bath and learn about the holy fire, ancestors and herbal medicine. This is a unique opportunity to meet these people and experience their culture and way of life.

As we leave the village, we visit the local Himba flea market where many of us purchase a momento of our visit to these unique and interesting people. It is a short walk back to our campsite where we have fish for dinner. It has been a great day where one's travels brings them to experinces that one would never have imagined.
